Engage with Education: a virtual careers talk

7 October 2020

Engage with Education is a new programme for Merchant Taylors' Company, but it is part of a centuries' old ambition to support schools and make a positive impact on the lives of young people through and after full-time education.

Rolled out in the early weeks of 2020 we didn't envisage the world changing quite as it has, but while we navigate this new world normal, we continue to assist members in connecting with schools virtually.

Over the summer, Freeman Shiv Saujani, once of Merchant Taylors' School Northwood, spoke with sixth-form students at Merchant Taylors' Crosby, offering advice and discussing his own journey from school through to work today.

Below, Shiv discusses his virtual careers talk and how you also can get involved in Engage with Education:

It was a real privilege to have Shiv speak to our pupils as part of our online MTS Careers Live series over the summer term. He was extremely honest and personable, which gave the pupils the rare experience of truly understanding his career journey, and why he took the decisions he did. They gained a much greater insight than they might have done at a more traditional, face to face careers session, and we are grateful to Shiv both for his time and for his openness.

Merchant Taylors’ has deep and longstanding connections with schools who would love to able to place their sixth-form students in real work experience for a day, a week or a month. Physical or virtual. If you or your firm could facilitate this for one or more students, please get in touch here.
