Merchant Taylors' School was proud to welcome the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of the City of London.
The Lord Mayor is a member of the Merchant Taylors' Company and so this is the fourth time in the history of the Company that a liveryman has been elected to this Office.
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress were greeted by the Head Master Mr Everson and the Development Director Nick Latham. They were then taken on a short tour of the school which included a visit to the Design Centre where the boys demonstrated a flight simulator and VEX Robotics.
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress then heard about some of the outstanding charitable contributions that MTS boys make in the community, with presentations from Phab, Community Action, Charity Drive and Outreach.
The Lord Mayor then gave a brief lecture to our Lower Sixth economists. Dr Beacham concluded with a vote of thanks.
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress then made their way to Merchant Taylors' Prep before visiting St John's, completing a triumvirate of Merchant Taylors' educational trust schools.
We were delighted to host the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, maintaining and cementing a most special tradition of Merchant Taylors' School and the City of London.

We were honoured today to welcome the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to St John’s. They were accompanied on their visit by Ben Huntley (programme officer, office of the Lord Mayor), Mr Duncan Eggar (Chair of Governors at Merchant Taylor’s School), and our Chair of Governors, James Fowler. Pre-Prep and Year 5 boys formed a guard of honour, waving the special Lord Mayor’s Show flags, to welcome our distinguished visitors.
The Lord Mayor enjoyed a performance on our brand new outdoor instruments by Year 8 percussionists Shane, Remika, Mithil and George, which the Reception boys also enjoyed while they were playing on the treehouse. Meanwhile, the Lady Mayoress read the story of “Dick Whittington” to Years 1 and 2 in the Pre-Prep library. After lunch, our visitors and Year 6-8 boys enjoyed performances from our Tabla Tappers and Junior Choir. The Lord Mayor was particularly pleased to be presented with the beacon by Teddy who proudly held it at the head of the procession at the Lord Mayor’s Show in November of last year. The Lord Mayor spoke enthusiastically about his experience at St John’s and commented particularly on the warm atmosphere around the school before Mr Jenkin thanked the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress for visiting.
